Windows 10 Version 1803 To Enable Service Workers and Push Notifications for Progressive Web Apps

With the Windows 10 April 2018 Update now available to download, everyone should soon be able to discover a new type of Windows 10 app called Progressive Web Apps. PWAs are web apps on steroids that look and work just like native apps. This is possible thanks to standards-based technologies such as push notifications and service workers, which are supported on Windows 10 version 1803.

Windows 10 Version 1803 To Bring Progressive Web Apps

Note: Microsoft has started delivering Microsoft Edge to users of Windows via Windows Update. The update is provisioned for users of Windows 10 version 1803 and above, and replaces the classic Edge app once installed. The browser, when delivered with KB4559309, makes it impossible to uninstall it from Settings. Check out the following workaround: Uninstall Microsoft Edge If Uninstall Button is Grayed Out

Because it is a PWA, it works offline and can also be pinned to the taskbar, just like a native Windows app. However, users will need to be on Windows 10 version 1803 or later since only these versions support PWAs.

Aaron Gustafson from the Microsoft Edge browser team also gave an update on Edge and PWAs. Gustafson said the next version of Edge, which will be Chromium-based, will allow users to install PWAs directly from the browser, bringing it in line with Chrome and Firefox.

In the latest Edge Canary (see the version list below), Microsoft has changed the design of the button from a circle with a plus to a square icon that matches the "Manage apps" entry icon in the above picture.

An updated version of Windows Store was introduced in Windows 8.1. Its home page was remodeled to display apps in focused categories (such as popular, recommended, top free and paid, and special offers) with expanded details, while the ability for apps to automatically update was also added.[10] Windows 8.1 Update also introduced other notable presentation changes, including increasing the top app lists to return 1000 apps instead of 100 apps, a 'picks for you' section, and changing the default sorting for reviews to be by 'most popular'.

Windows 10 was released with an updated version of the Windows Store which merged Microsoft's other distribution platforms (Windows Marketplace, Windows Phone Store, Xbox Video and Xbox Music) into a unified store front for Windows 10 on all platforms, offering apps, games, music, film, TV series,[11][12] themes,[13] and ebooks.[14]

In February 2018, Microsoft announced that Progressive Web Apps would begin to be available in the Microsoft Store, and Microsoft would automatically add selected quality progressive web apps through the Bing crawler or allow developers to submit Progressive Web Apps to the Microsoft Store.[19][20]

After an unexpected delay, Microsoft has at last begun rolling out the new Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) half a year after the last big Windows 10 update, the Fall Creators Update (version 1709), in October 2017.

But the Teams app that's coming to the Store is a Progressive Web App, or PWA. Support for PWAs arrived in the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, and they allow for web apps to run like native apps using Service Workers. That means that if you're not on Windows 10 S, you can still test out the new app by simply using Edge on Windows 10 version 1803, because that's essentially what this is.

App developers are working hard to enhance their apps by creating high-quality activity cards to appear in Timeline. In this Preview release, you can see and resume web-browsing activities in Microsoft Edge, files you opened in apps like Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, and updated UWP versions of Maps, News, Money, Sports, and Weather.

PFS was defined as the time from date of enrolment to the date of the first documented progressive disease (PD) or death for any cause. OS was calculated from date of enrolment to the date of death due to any cause, or censored at the date of last follow-up for living patients. Survival curves were plotted by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank test. For ordinal variables, a log-rank test of trend was applied. Data analysed were using SPSS version 16.0 for Windows (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA). Results were reported with 95% confidence intervals (CI). All the statistical tests were conducted at the two-sided 0.05 level of significance. 2ff7e9595c
